In 2011, when the Rugby World Cup was about to hit New Zealand’s shores, several committees were formed to manage the event, its visitors, and all aspects of the brand and marketing.

The RWC2011 marketing committee reached out to Spire to become their go-to brand & marketing support team throughout the duration of this 8-week event. They were extremely open about what they needed;

a reliable partner that they could call upon at all hours, to deliver hundreds of diverse design related projects at the drop of a hat. How could we possibly say no?

The diversity of the departments involved was staggering and all of these teams required RWC2011 branded design work producing. We worked with Catering departments to produce; menus, place cards, invitations,

bespoke wine labels, stationery and even cloakroom tags. The needs were so diverse, that we ended up producing over 300 small design products.

We were also asked to design a sub-brand for the RWC2011, one that addresses the needs of the events VIP guests who have been invited by our Prime Minister to attend the event. The brand needed to have the

essence of the RWC, but also focus on promoting New Zealand as a whole, as well as showcasing our successful businesses, our beautiful landscapes and the diverse cultures that make New Zealand what it is today.

With this level of responsibility placed on our shoulders, if was imperative that our design quality, project management, print management, design consultancy, file security and data backup were all seamless. Surprisingly,

even with the extreme pressure we faced, everything came together perfectly. All deadlines were meet, all projects within budget and the All Blacks did their bit by lifting the Web Ellis Trophy.
